Day Two - Bike to Work Week
Day two of Bike to Work Week saw another gaggle of thousands of eager cyclists, many of whom are biking for the first time this year. There are an estimated 5,750 participants registered.
Highlights:
Commuter Challenge car vs bike race once again showed the ease and convenience of cycling, particularly in congested situations.
The final tally?26 teams (car and bicycle) completed the race
13 bicycles were victorious
11 cars were victorious
2 bike/car teams arrived at exactly the same time!
The average time between was less than 5 minutes! Not much when you consider the tremendous health benefits of cycling!
Victoria Police Chief Paul Battershill and Victoria Councillor Charlayne Thornton Joe raced in from Broadmead Village with the Chief of Police edging out the Councillor Thornton Joe by two minutes!
Stations:
Commuter Challenge - 195 people completed entry forms and showed their support to the cycling/driving teams!
University of Victoria - 177 people completed forms and another 100 cyclists passed by with a wave!
Saanich Municipal Hall - 308 people completed ballots. A traffic count between 4&5pm revealed that 498 people passed the checkpoint on their way home from work.
Sidney (Tulista Park) - 30 people completed ballots, and an estimated 40 cyclists passed by!
