Bike to Work Week 2012: May 28 – June 3

Kamloops Bike to Work and Bike to School Week - May 30 - June 5, 2011

Kamloops Bike to Work Week 2011 registration is Live!

We invite all businesses and their employees to join us for the 4th annual Kamloops Bike to Work Week!

What is Bike to Work Week?  It’s a week long event that encourages and supports commuter cycling with a main focus on FUN!  During the week, participants are encouraged to leave the car at home and bike all the way to and from work, to or from work, or just part of the way - it’s all good and who knows?, it just might become a habit!

What is Bike to School Week?  This year we’re also inviting schools and their students and staff to show their support of cycling as an alternative form of transportation!  Why not register your school and encourage your students to take the challenge to bike to and from school this spring?  Please see our contact page for the Bike to School Week Coordinator.

Why Bike?  It’s fun, it’s healthy, it’s less expensive than driving the car … and it helps out the environment.  Biking is a great activity that you can do by yourself, with a friend or partner, or with a group of people.  Biking is for all ages, all abilities, and is an activity that you can enjoy almost anywhere.

How Do We Register for Bike to Work or Bike to School Week?  Registering your team is easy and FREE!  Click on "Register Team" (the large orange button on the top right of the screen).

Cycling Tips

-          Cyclists have the same rights and duties as a driver of a vehicle. The same rules of right-of-way, traffic signs and signals apply to cyclists and motorists.
-          It is illegal to ride on the sidewalk or in a crosswalk, unless otherwise designated by city bylaws or signage. The fine for riding a bicycle on the sidewalk is $109.
-          It is illegal to ride side by side on the roadway.
-          Cyclists riding after dark must use a front white headlight visible for 150 metres and a rear red reflector visible for 100 metres when illuminated by car headlights.
-          Cyclists are required to wear an approved bicycle helmet. The fine for not wearing a helmet is $29.
-          When cycling in heavy traffic with no bike lane, ride about one metre from the right hand curb.
